One often overlooked secret weapon in shot put competitions is chalk. While chalk may seem like a small and simple accessory, its impact on performance should not be underestimated. The application of chalk on the hands creates a dry, rough surface that greatly improves friction between the hand and the shot. Shot put chalk improves the grip and looks really cool when it explodes into the air with the shot at release.
